Keep those entries flooding in

Monday, September 29th, 2008

The number of entries so far to win the Bigtop Record of the Week (White Denim – Work Out Holiday) has been low. Very poor. Disappointing. Perhaps there will be a flurry of activity towards the end of the week?

Let me just confirm that this is an actual CD (not vinyl) and has been purchased with our very own money. No expense spared. We’ll ship it to anywhere in the world too.

Workout Holiday really is a stunning record, though dancing to it may prove problematic. – The Times

Mostly it sounds utterly mental, as most great records do. – BBC online

Ultimately, Workout Holiday is a party record for thinking people, and it’s a smart time to join them. – Uncut

White Denim ~ Workout Holiday

White Denim ~ Workout Holiday (Full Time Hobby 2008)
I could talk to you about their propulsive kineticism, the mix of clanging post-punk rock din, minutemen-style funk, and howling spazz rock. Or I could just tell you that White Denim’s Workout Holiday is 37 minutes and 28 seconds of full throttle, non-stop gear changing rock and roll mayhem! Either way this Austin trio are a thrilling prospect and we like this record rather a lot at bigtop. Which is why we are not only giving it the prestigious of ‘Record of The Week’ stamp of approval, but in these tough – credit crunching times – we are also offering one lucky big blogger the opportunity to bag themselves a copy, pretty neat eh? All you have to do, is tell us why you think you deserve to win. Simple! The winner will be announced Friday 3rd October here in the bigblog.

Good luck,
xx

I’m a Sucker For Your Love

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Well, you’re a fine sexy little lady
You like your candy very sweet
You’re a classy little dame, with sophisticated game
And you know all of the best restaurants to eat, uh-huh

Every Friday afternoon, after our four o’clock cup of tea, Daniel and myself don our skin tight gold lamé catsuits, climb onto our desks, and shake our groove thangs to the hot and sweaty music of Motown Dance Machine. By side two we’re usually beginning to tire a little, but that’s ok as it’s side one that really makes us go crazy. Love Gun by Rick James and I’m a Sucker for Your Love by Tina Marie drive us totally insane. If you fancy joining us for a boogie this Friday, grab your catsuit, cycle over to Bigtop and ring our bell.
