My favourite butchers

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

I haven’t been cooking much this Summer. I have a fairly good reason as we’re putting in a new kitchen and at the moment the room is an empty shell. I hope I can remember what to do when I finally get in front of a stove again.

To keep in practice I’m cooking elsewhere tonight, so I popped in to my local butcher / fish monger in Summertown – Alcocks, on the main Banbury Road. They are always friendly and cheery and I’ve always been really pleased with my purchases. It made me a bit sad today though… Since my last visit before kitchen demolition day, two out of their team of three have been made redundant :(

So I’d like to spread the word and say GET DOWN TO ALCOCKS TODAY! They are tonnes better than any of those generic supermarkets out there. Better produce. Less packaging. Fruit, veg and other essentials too… and friendly faces. Well – one friendly face now.

Save Alcocks now, before its too late!

Bicester now has a polish deli. I’m going to check it out this lunchtime so details to follow.

What’s the day…

It’s Friday! We’ve just listened to The Reunion on Radio 4 and it was the Play School team, happy days! I am doing my usual nostalgia thing now and smiling at the thought of Humpty Dumpty and ‘dirty’ Hamble. I loved Derek Griffiths and especially Toni Arthur who I thought looked a bit like my mum, maybe it was the long hair.

Anyway, it’s cake day and we are all in working away and waiting for coffee time. Cookies today and a Kit Kat for me.

Off to get Jemima from the loft…

Have a nice weekend.
